“Pass” a good time in Acadiana in this tour of Cajun country and culture! The sights, sounds, and smells of all things Cajun two-step off the page, introduced letter by letter in alphabetical order. From the alligators in the bayou to the stars of the zydeco stage, the food, music, literature, and language unique to the people of southern Louisiana are delightfully rhymed and beautifully illustrated. From the smallest details of daily life to the fantastical “fifolet” of Cajun folklore, the spirit and the spice of Cajun country infuse these pages. Author Rickey Pittman includes maps of Acadiana, a graph showing the concentration of Cajun speakers by parish, and a glossary of terms. On each page, artist Alexis Braud hides a pelican just waiting to be found by emerging readers.

About the Author: Rickey E. Pittman, often called the “Bard of the South,” is an award-winning storyteller, author, and folksinger. The author of more than a dozen books and four CDs, Pittman earned a BA in New Testament Greek and an MA in English Literature from Abilene Christian University. He teaches college-level composition and literature and is a certified secondary English teacher. Pittman is also a tireless performer in great demand, with hundreds of performances annually at schools, libraries, festivals, conventions, and workshops, including many in the Rio Grande Valley. He can be found online at bardofthesouth.com. Once upon a time, on a slow-moving bayou far, far away from everything, there lived a girl who loved words and pictures. She grew up with books and drawing pads and drew pictures of the places she knew. One day she left that bayou to embark on great adventures and learn about the world. When she returned it was with a family, her own children, and a dream to tell the stories of her bayou. Alexis Braud is a Cajun native, rambler, and eccentric. With her books and art she celebrates the things that deeply matter to our lives here in Louisiana. A graduate of Nicholls State University, she lives with her books, drawings, dreams and family along Bayou Lafourche, the same bayou on which she grew up. Find Alexis online at www.fablepainter.com.
