ABOUT THE AUTHOR:  Deborah Ousley Kadair describes herself as "southernality at its most diverse." Born in Savannah, Georgia, she moved with her family to Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of two. After she finished the third grade, her family relocated to Houston, Texas, where she fell in love with the big city. While attending Clear Lake High School, she met her future husband and also discovered her passion for writing. After receiving a two-year degree in child development at the College of the Mainland in Texas, she married and moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she obtained her Montessori certification. When the cold weather of the Midwest lost its appeal, she and her husband moved back to the warm South, settling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There, she attended Louisiana State University, where she earned her bachelor of arts while participating in the Golden Key International Honour Society and Phi Alpha Theta, an academic organization. Having worked with young students in the classroom since the 1990s, Kadair understands what children like to see and hear when reading picture books. As a writer and illustrator, she manages to make her books come alive with collage-style illustrations and lively text. Kadair resides in Cedar Park, Texas, with her husband, Gregory, and their son, Alex.
